group buy right now for the new Hakko one

I have an 808 and absolutely love it. I can only assume this new one is better and appears to be much smaller/lighter in the hand which would be nice.

I can't remember the price quote but I think Sean told me $220 when I saw him last night?

This is the one that TimN recommended to me. Works really well and you can't beat the price! Looks like it's on backorder currently but should hopefully be back in stock soon.

I also have the 808 (actually this is my second one since i dropped the first one about 5 years ago and it cracked in half). I use my in a commercial/profession environment and the only issue i have is that i sometimes forget to hold the trigger/vacuum long enough so then i have to clean out the shaft that the solder comes up.

i used mine last night to do 2 sets of header pins on a WPC power driver board, 2 transistors on the 8 output board in ST:TNG and to do a 5v fix (br2 and c5) on a different WPC power driver board.

I would buy another 808 if i needed one.

I also like the portability of this gun, the one that Mike linked to looks nice, but it is another bigger item for me to take from location to location.

If you are desoldering on a bench/table and not in the field, the one Mike and I works amazing and it is super hard to beat the bang for the buck. It has a smaller head than the 808 as well, because the vacuum is on the base and not on the gun. The 808 is a fantastic tool, but I don't desolder in the field.

The one Mike linked is a knock of this one-

the Ayoue is a great unit and has recently come down in price. If you want one right now, that Amazon link is your best bet. If you are willing to wiat, Circuit Specialist will get more in I am sure.

i picked up an Ungar 4624 solder/desolder station off eBay for $60. I it by far the best piece of equipment I have used. I have the manual solder sucker, the bulb desolder iron, and have used the Hakko desolder gun and the weller desolder station. I like the Ungar for 2 reasons. The solder is pulled through the tip directly into the capture chamber (the weller is like the desolder iron and the chamber is above the iron itself). This helps to keep the desolder iron from getting clogged as the solder cools. The second reason for Ungar over all the rest is full temp control. The hakko I used (my second choice by the way) didn't have any temp adjustment on it. Being able to cool the tip down a bit for smaller components on a board is a must if your going to do a lot of board work. The WPC traces at as fine as a hair in some places and you will cook them with too much heat.
